Hand held vacuums definitely serve a niche in the area of home cleaning. While not as powerful, nor as large, as regular vacuum cleaners, hand held vacuums still hold a variety of useful advantages. For one, they are small. This means that storage of a hand held vacuum cleaner should not be any type of an issue at all. While a standard vacuum may need a closet, or be bulky enough to only fit in two or three places, any shelf, any closet, any corner just out of the way (even a bare cupboard) will have room enough to store a hand held vacuum. These little vacuum cleaners are also great to pick up emergency spills, and to do a quick touch up before someone comes over for dinner. The hand helds are designed for tough to reach areas and can take care of a lot of nooks and crannies that your normal vacuum cleaner can not touch up in any way, shape, or form. Keeping a hand held vacuum in a closest is a great way to keep prepared in case of a sudden emergency. Hand held vacuums also tend to be much cheaper than their larger counterparts, ranging anywhere from $30-50. There are some corded hand held vacuums, but many are also cordless, which is a huge advantage in being able to move around without any concern about tripping or tangling things up.
Hand helds are great for cleaning out pantry shelves, picking up dirt that the cats pulled out of potted plants, and many other things. Perhaps the most common need for a hand held vacuum, and one of its most useful features, is the fact that it can easily pick up pet hair. From carpet to sofas to anything else, cat and dog hair are hard to pick up with a regular vacuum, but it almost seems like one of the main reasons that the hand held vacuums were even invented.
While this by no means suggests you throw out your normal vacuum cleaner, keep the hand held models in mind. They are great for pet hair, common allergens, and all the little areas that need to be cleaned. Having a hand held vacuum allows for a more thorough spring cleaning, and the benefits are enough to make a person smile in relief.
