The Different Shapes Of Vacuum CleanersIt's amazing how many different varieties and shapes of vacuum cleaners there are. There are upright vacuums, canister, stick vacuums, and bagless models. There are little handheld vacuum cleaner, cordless vacuums, and wet/dry vacuums. Don't forget about central vacuum cleaning systems, backpack and shoulder strap models and even water filtration vacuums, (like the Rainbow). Steam vacs and related devices can steam clean stains out of carpets and shampoo them. Many of these types of units are not known to the average apartment dweller, who with his or her little stick vacuum tries to keep fairly clean. For example, backpack units or shoulder strap units are good for certain commercial cleaning uses, because the person operating them can reach hard to reach spots either above or below. These units have a power cord that is 50-feet long, so that the person operating it can really move around. One backpack unit has a powerful 1400 watt motor and a one-and-one-half gallon dirt containment unit. The unit empty only ways a little over 11 pounds. Cordless vacuum cleaners are generally small light weight units that are often hand held. At 9 or 10 volts, these units have some power, and can help a lot when you have to clean up in the tool shop or in the car or outside. They often use cyclonic action, which means that they do not need a bag. The dirt holding part just pops off. Since it is not holding a huge amount of material, the dirt can be readily thrown into a garbage bag. Other cordless units, still priced under $60, have up to 15 volts of power. A case in point is the DirtDevil 14.4 volt hand held vacuum cleaner, model # 0911DD. It includes a crevice tool and a retractable brush to get cleaning down in tight and inaccessible spots. Its competitor, at a similar price is the Shark Cordless Hand Vacuum with Motorized Brush and Twister technology, model # SV736. The detachable motorized brush can be used to dig out pet hairs and dug in dirt from furniture. These types of vacuum cleaning are generally bagless, and the better ones come with a charging stand, so you can recharge the batteries, rather than continuously buying batteries. Black & Decker has a similar model, the Cyclone Cordless Dust Buster, Model CHV1400. It has a 14.4 volt powered motor for all small cleaning jobs on the go. |
